Lenten Experiences (Modified 2/11/08)
These Lenten Experiences include Friday evening Stations of the Cross as well as bible Study and Faith Sharing groups.
There aren't many of us who joyfully anticipate Lent. A rich Lent is uncomfortable and takes hard work. In fact, the season of Lent is a cause for joy. Lent is the Church's gift to each of us to help us prepare for the feast of Easter, and for the final feast of Heaven.
Celebrate Lent by trying these suggestions:
Live with less: We all need food, clothing and shelter. But do we need three course meals, fashionable clothing, or a home filled with luxuries? Lent is a great time to reorder our priorities and give our excess tothe poor.
Abstain and refrain: The idea behind Lent is to move aside whatever is between you and a closer relationship with God. For example, abstaining from a favorite food or activity can free you to spend more time in prayer. Once you give it up, consider refraining from picking it up after Lent is over.
Refresh and renew: No matter how many times we falter, God is always ready to forgive us and help us start fresh. Jesus created the Sacrament of Reconciliation so that we could have a real experience of God's unlimited mercy as often as we need it.
There's no better time to come home than during Lent.
Prayer for Lent
Dear Jesus,
You spent 40 days in the desert before you began your ministry to the world. You resisted the temptations offered by the devil, saying no to worldly pleasures and power. Like the prophets before you, 40 days in the desert was preparation for the great mission of your life. As Lent begins, help us to make our lives pure and holy. Give us the grace to willingly make our own self- denials into personal desert, which will prepare us for your work. Purify our souls in the crucible of this Lenten season, and make our hearts acceptable to you and your Father. Amen.
